Spot a scam with AI

Lesson 3 of 15 · Level 1 · First steps · 6 minutes

Every day we receive texts, emails and WhatsApp messages that look real but are meant to steal money or data. AI can help you understand whether a message is suspicious, but the most important rule remains: when in doubt, don't click and ask.

  1. 1

    Typical signs of a scam

Urgency ("within 24 hours"), fear ("your account is blocked"), a strange link, a request for codes, PINs or payments, an unknown number pretending to be someone you know.

“Your parcel is on hold. Pay $1.99 shipping fee here: http://parcel-delivery-us.info”

  2. 2

Paste the message and ask the AI

Copy the text of the suspicious message and ask: "Is this message a scam? What are the signs?". Never paste your personal data or codes.

  3. 3

    Always verify another way

Call your bank on the number on the back of your card, open the official app, phone your relative on their usual number. Never use the links or numbers in the message.

  4. 4

    Banks never ask for codes

No bank, post office or government agency will ask you for your PIN, password or codes received by text. If they do, it's a scam.

✍️ Exercise

Read this text message. Write which scam signs you see and what you would do to check.

The message to analyze

“BANK: we have blocked your account after a suspicious login. Unblock it today from this link: http://bank-secure-verify.com”
